On April 19th Mr. Vaal's fire class went to Indianapolis for the Fire Department Instructors Conference. There were over 36,000 registered individuals who attended classes, hands on training and went through the vendor's show. This year two students registered for the September 11th Memorial Stair Climb to honor the 343 fallen firefighters who gave the ultimate sacrifice. A memorial was held at Lucas Oil Stadium followed by the playing of pipes and drums. The two students climbed 2200 steps in honor of a fallen FDNY firefighter assigned to them (steps that went down do not count toward the total). We are very proud of Emily Herrera and Brooklyn Rasche for accomplishing this challenge.
Congratulations to our welding and precision machining students who placed at the SkillsUSA State Competition this past weekend in Indianapolis. Isaac Shimer placed second in the 3-axis CNC milling competition, Austin Henson placed second in the Precision Machining competition and Lucas Taylor placed third in the Welding competition. Students not only had hands-on skills to demonstrate, but also written tests.
Way to go! Proud of our Chargers. #ChargerPride #WeAreChargers

Big news coming from P.C. Broadcasting. The students recently participated in a short film competition and their entry was selected for screening! They had two weeks to write, video, and edit their five-minute film. The competition had ten entries from four schools with the highest scoring films being chosen for screening. Their movie, Sweet Dreams, will preview at the Thyne-Clark Cultural Center on May 2 at 6:30 p.m. One or two students will also be participating in a Q & A on stage at the event. The judges for the competition have ties with the movie industry, and we are honored to have our movie selected for screening. There is a link below to order tickets ($10.00 for adults) in case you are interested in attending. We will release our video for viewing after the screening in Jasper. Congratulations to all the students who worked on the film. #ChargerPride

The Criminal Justice classes had Officer Briar Meadors, PCHS alumnus, demonstrate the drones that the Pike County Sheriff's Department utilizes. The students learned more about how and why they are used, as well as the training requirements. Thank you Officer Meadors for taking time out of your day. #WeAreChargers

Mrs. Sparrow had received a grant so her classes can have gardens with raised beds. She has collaborated Mr. Howald's General Carpentry class to take the rough cut cedar planks, smooth them out with the wood planer and then build the beds. They are just getting started, but they are going to look good! Love it when our departments work together towards a common goal!
