Mrs. Hunt brought in a few visitors today. Students got the chance to learn the difference between a broiler and a layer. The broiler was actually a Cornish Cross. These chickens were both the same age. Any guesses on which is raised for meat?

Mrs. Hunt’s Animal Science class has been diving into the dairy and beef industries—and recently took learning beyond the classroom!
Students spent the day touring Obert Dairy Farm in Ft. Branch and Sand Ridge Beef Farm in Princeton. They had the opportunity to see firsthand the similarities and differences in how cattle are raised in each operation.
From equipment and feeding practices to housing, production phases, and end goals, students were able to connect what they’ve been learning in class to real-world applications.
A great day of hands-on learning and industry insight!

With prom coming this weekend, PCHS and local community organizations wanted to do everything possible to make the students aware of the consequences of safe driving and not driving under the influence. A safe prom simulated accident scene involving a drunk driver was demonstrated at the high school's parking lot. Students from Mrs. Gegogeine’s SADD group and Mr. Vaal’s Fire Rescue class played the victims as they were extricated from the vehicles and assessed by EMS. Life Flight 46 also landed on site to add to the realism. This was an outstanding event for everyone involved and a great showing of teamwork from multiple agencies. A huge thank you to Pike County EMS, Patoka Township Fire Department, Petersburg Fire Department, Indiana State Police, Pike County Sheriff’s Department, Pike County Dispatch, Schell’s towing, Air Evac 46 and the Pike Central maintenance crew for making this all happen.
Thank you to these four invaluable staff members! Happy Administrative Professionals Day to the ones that keep PCHS running. We truly appreciate everything that you do! (This post was a day late because one of these individuals takes care of posting when we celebrate these days and she wouldn't post about herself.)
Mrs. Hunt's Culinary Arts students had a guest teacher on Friday, Mrs. Hunt's mother! She traveled all the way from Ohio to work with the students on cake decorating. They did an amazing job! #WeAreChargers #ChargerPride

Friday April the 10th was a good day for Pike Central Engineering and Precision Machining students at the STEM challenge held at Oakland City University which was sponsored by the Southwest Indiana Workforce. Three teams from Pike Central competed for a total of 28 teams. Congratulations to team number 9 which consisted of Jaron Woolsey, Sam McConnell, Maddex Garrett and Tyler Collins who took home four awards. We are also very proud of our other two teams of Tucker Loveless, Ian Shoultz, Vivien Frasure, Kaydee Sims, Caiden Crume, Kaden, VanMeter, Wyatt Cannon and Xander McAtee. Great job everyone!

Congratulations to the Precision Machining program for their success this past weekend at the SkillsUSA State competition. Maddex Garrett placed first in the Manual Machining and earned Gold honors. Keenen Bieker placed first in the CNC 3 Axis Milling and earned Gold honors. Tyler Collins had the highest score in the milling portion of the contest.
Keenen Bieker advances to the national competition in Atlanta in June. Note, not all of the sections have a national competition.
Well done to Mr. Scott and his Precision Machining students!

Did you know that PCHS has a Strength class as an elective PE class? Many students have been taking this to improve themselves(athletes and non-athletes). He releases monthly newsletters that have lots of training and nutrition tips that apply to EVERYONE! Check out their website and follow them on social media for updates. Thanks for all you do, Coach Kramer!

On April 1st, Mr. Vaal's Fire class had some visitors speak to his students about different opportunities in the fire service. Those speaking were:
Firefighter/EMT Nick Blue, Petersburg Fire
Firefighter/EMR Jeremiah Raney, Petersburg Fire
Lieutenant/EMT Chris Leavitt, Petersburg Fire and Evansville Fire
The students were able to ask questions about volunteering for their local fire departments and what it's like to be a career firefighter. Thank you gentlemen for taking time to talk to our students.

Pike Central High School is proud to announce our March Student of the Month — Regina Martin!

PC Broadcasting is excited to team with TTR Haven over the Hilltop to expand their social media presence. The students will be creating spotlight videos highlighting TTR's mission and services. We are looking forward to this partnership! Awesome things are happening here at PCHS. #ChargerStrong #PCBroadcasting

Mr. Igel’s Government and Economics classes hosted two Indiana state representatives, District 63 House of Representatives, Shane Lindauer and Senate District 48, Daryl Schmitt. Every year, Mr. Igel tries to bring our state representatives in to talk to the seniors about the political process at the state level. Also, the students get to hear responses from letters they wrote to these politicians. There were many issues discussed, but the main focus was public school funding. Pike Central students were very passionate about their school and on this day they were educated about funding and issues that go along with it. What an experience for these students! Thanks, Mr. Igel for making this possible for our seniors.
The Radio and TV broadcasting class has been working hard on completing their short movie for the 3rd annual Va Bene Film Challenge. Looking forward to hearing more . They will compete with other schools from Southern Indiana in this 5 minute film competition. This student crew do everything for this film! They write the script, direct, film, act, edit and finalize. So much is done by this small group. Keep it up!

ICP classes have been working on concepts of aerodynamics, forces, lift, and drag. As a cumulative activity, students designed and flew their group's airplanes. Each team was challenged to design and flew a plane capable of reaching the furthest distance. The winning team of Bryer, Blaine and Shepard engineered a plane that flew 33.89 meters(over 111 ft). #STEMchallenges

Congratulations to Maddex Garrett from Mark Scott's Precision Machining class. He placed first in manual machining at the INTMA statewide machining competition.
Maddex and Keenen Bieker were also named winners in the mock interview for manual machining and CNC respectively.
Well done! #PCmachining #preciscionmachining
