Late post alert! 62 students and staff members from PCHS performed Fiddler On the Roof in mid-March. Thanks to all who helped with having to reschedule Saturday's show because of the lack of power due to storms. Everyone did a wonderful job in a chaotic winter musical season! Mrs. Traylor and Mrs. Loveless are so proud of the amazing talent of our Pike Central students!

Ms. Geiling's Human Service class had learned about the world's recycling and waste concerns during the first semester, which led to the desire to implement a worm farming, or vermiculture, program that goes along with our Farm-to-School program with our 12 raised beds. Vermiculture is the process of raising worms to break down organic waste into nutrient-rich compost called worm castings. This eco-friendly practice helps reduce food waste while producing a natural fertilizer for gardens. The Culinary classes use fruits and vegetables on a regular basis and will team up with the school's kitchen to collect produce scraps for composting, along with recycling the school's paper instead of sending it to the landfill. The class has set up worm bins containing 5 lbs each of red wigglers. Scrap, paper, and cardboard will be pre-composted and then fed to the worms regularly. We are excited about what the future brings for us!

Congratulations to our March Charger of the Month, JJ Belmore! He is an active member of the Key Club and FCA and puts in many hours on the baseball diamond as well. JJ also takes advantage of the medical classes and PLTW opportunities to prep for a career in the medical field. The future is bright for this Charger! #WeAre Chargers #ChargerPride

The Friday before Spring Break, Representative Lindauer and Senator Schmitt came to speak to a group of students from Mr. Igel's Government and Economics classes. The students wrote letters to their local state legislators about the possible cuts to public education due to SB 1 property tax reform bill. They gave a short presentation on the workings of state government, addressed the student's concerns from their letters and then had a question and answer time. PCHS would like to thank Representative Lindauer and Senator Schmitt for taking time to meet with these students.
