Pike Central Culinary students had the opportunity to showcase their skills at the Pike County Chamber’s Taste of Pike on Sunday the 13th!
Mrs. Hunt’s Culinary class spent time preparing everything from scratch, including 200 hand-rolled turkey and pork meatballs served with a chili and grape jelly sauce. They also made two varieties of Puffcorn Crack — traditional almond bark and a delicious Cookies & Cream version!
We were so excited to serve over 100 people throughout the event! One of our favorite parts was watching people come back for seconds… and even thirds!
But even better was watching our students experience something really special—hearing people compliment the food and watching them interact with the community. There is something powerful about seeing the pride on a student’s face when someone tells them, “This is really good!" and "Do you sell these?" #ChargerPride

Mrs. Anderson's Biology students conducted a hands-on scientific investigation testing the strength of different toilet paper brands. This wasn't just about having fun; students learned how to write a proper hypothesis, conduct a controlled experiment, collect and analyze data, and interpret results and draw evidence-based conclusions. By comparing how much weight different brands could hold before tearing, students got real practice with the scientific method in action. They discovered that science is about asking questions, testing ideas, and explaining what the evidence tells us.
The Biology classes have also been researching exciting careers in the field of biology and creating informative posters to share what they've learned! From marine biologists and genetic counselors to wildlife conservationists and medical researchers, students discovered the incredible variety of career paths available in the biological sciences.

This past weekend, the FIRST Tech Challenge had the reveal for the 2026-27 Robotics competition. Teams were shown the competition challenge that they would be facing this season. Students from various teams got together to discuss the competition, brainstorm ideas and just help each other out. That is what is so awesome about FIRST Robotics, it is a competition but also very much a community atmosphere!

Mrs. Anderson's Anatomy and Physiology students are getting hands-on today by constructing their own lipid bilayer model. They're learning about the structure and function of the cell membrane, including phospholipids, proteins, cholesterol, and carbohydrates, and how this selectively permeable barrier controls what enters and exits our cells. Much more meaningful and enjoyable for these students to get up and be active with their learning. #WeAreChargers

After orientation, members of the PCMS Student Government will be available to give guided tours of the middle school to our incoming 6th grade students. This is a great opportunity for students to become familiar with the building, locate classrooms, and feel more comfortable before the first day of school.

As we prepare for the new school year, please remember that student schedules will not be finalized until just before school begins. There is still a great deal of balancing and adjusting that takes place leading up to the first day of school. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this process!

Mrs. Hunt brought in a few visitors today. Students got the chance to learn the difference between a broiler and a layer. The broiler was actually a Cornish Cross. These chickens were both the same age. Any guesses on which is raised for meat?
Mrs. Hunt’s Animal Science class has been diving into the dairy and beef industries—and recently took learning beyond the classroom!
Students spent the day touring Obert Dairy Farm in Ft. Branch and Sand Ridge Beef Farm in Princeton. They had the opportunity to see firsthand the similarities and differences in how cattle are raised in each operation.
From equipment and feeding practices to housing, production phases, and end goals, students were able to connect what they’ve been learning in class to real-world applications.

With prom coming this weekend, PCHS and local community organizations wanted to do everything possible to make the students aware of the consequences of safe driving and not driving under the influence. A safe prom simulated accident scene involving a drunk driver was demonstrated at the high school's parking lot. Students from Mrs. Gegogeine’s SADD group and Mr. Vaal’s Fire Rescue class played the victims as they were extricated from the vehicles and assessed by EMS. Life Flight 46 also landed on site to add to the realism. This was an outstanding event for everyone involved and a great showing of teamwork from multiple agencies. A huge thank you to Pike County EMS, Patoka Township Fire Department, Petersburg Fire Department, Indiana State Police, Pike County Sheriff’s Department, Pike County Dispatch, Schell’s towing, Air Evac 46 and the Pike Central maintenance crew for making this all happen.
Thank you to these four invaluable staff members! Happy Administrative Professionals Day to the ones that keep PCHS running. We truly appreciate everything that you do! (This post was a day late because one of these individuals takes care of posting when we celebrate these days and she wouldn't post about herself.)
