Mrs. Sparrow had received a grant so her classes can have gardens with raised beds. She has collaborated Mr. Howald's General Carpentry class to take the rough cut cedar planks, smooth them out with the wood planer and then build the beds. They are just getting started, but they are going to look good! Love it when our departments work together towards a common goal!

Pike Central Vocational Welding students attended Career Day activities at the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 136 Training Facility in Evansville. The students were taken on a tour of the facility by Training Coordinator, Jason Blondin and Assistant Training Coordinator Jason Ross. Students learned about entry into the apprenticeship and accelerated welding program, along with wage and benefit packages. Students were provided lunch and were given an opportunity to weld in the facility on various groove welds. The Welding 2 students were given the opportunity to apply and test for the accelerated welding program. What an opportunity for these students!

PCSC received a grant from the Indiana Department of Health to work with local retailers who sell tobacco products. Students worked with Mr. Elliott, Ms. Elkins, Mrs. Sparrow and Mrs. Lehmkuhler to visit these establishments, perform the entire audit and then submitted the information to IDOH. They assessed not only tobacco products, but other food products as well and making sure the mandatory signage was present. There was a lot of information for them to gather. After the results of the audit are released by the State, all of the information will be shared with the classes who participated. The experience was great for all of the students! ALL of the retailers were very helpful and even provided education to the students along the way!
